Frequently asked questions

5G is the 5th generation of mobile technology – the next step that will eventually replace 4G throughout the world. For consumers and businesses, 5G can provide a faster, more responsive, and overall better experience. What does that mean in real terms? Uploading pictures, or videos faster, even when connected in crowded areas. It also means downloading can be quicker. For home internet, it means replacing fiber-optic cable with a fast wireless connection that comes right through your window.

Verizon offers two types of 5G service: 5G Ultra Wideband and 5G Nationwide. 5G Ultra Wideband is Verizon’s fastest 5G. Compared to typical 4G speeds, it runs up to 10x as fast, and responds quicker. Coverage is now expanding to more parts of the country (see map above). 5G Nationwide runs alongside 4G LTE, and delivers a similar experience to Verizon’s 4G LTE network to provide a widely available 5G network that offers convenience and reliability. Only our top Unlimited plans provide access to both 5G Ultra Wideband and 5G Nationwide. All other plans provide access to 5G Nationwide only.

5G Ultra Wideband uses two types of 5G spectrum (high-band and mid-band). Not all 5G devices are compatible with both high-band and mid-band and some devices may require software updates to be fully compatible. Check your device’s network compatibility.

The technical specs are as follows: devices supporting n77 (C-band), and n260 and n261 (mmWave) bands will have access to all of our 5G Ultra Wideband network.

5G Home Internet is the first internet powered by 5G Ultra Wideband. Rather than via underground fiber-optic cable, 5G Home provides internet via a 5G antenna outside your home, delivering a fast wireless connection right through your wall or window. With very high capacity and very low lag-time, you can smoothly stream video, video chat, and game. It’s conveniently priced with no annual contracts, data caps, and all taxes and fees are included.

All of our plans include access to our 5G Nationwide network. And, in addition, our 5G Play, 5G Do, and 5G Get More Unlimited plans include access to both 5G Ultra Wideband and 5G Nationwide. And when you have 5G Nationwide combined with 5G Ultra Wideband you'll get our absolute best performance.
